My Approach to Learning

I believe that effective teaching and learning is built on three key pillars: rigor, rapport, and sound instructional practices. Learning content must be rigorouschallenging but not overwhelmingto increase cognitive load just enough to foster meaningful learning. But rigor alone isn’t enough.

Rapport is of the highest importance. As a high school teacher, I saw firsthand that when students know you genuinely care about them and their future, they will follow you anywhere. Rapport also means accessibility. Do learners feel safe and confident enough to engage with the content in the first place? Finally, great teaching and learning must rest on a foundation of research-backed learning theories, principles, and methodologies. I excel in this space.

Expertise & Tools

With years of experience in teaching, instructional design, and curriculum development, I specialize in creating dynamic learning experiences that blend pedagogy with innovation. My work involves:

✔ Curriculum & instructional design
✔ eLearning development & assessment design
✔ AI integration & EdTech solutions
✔ Learning theories & methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, etc.)

I’m proficient in tools like Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate, Genially, Vyond, WondaVR, Synthesia, Canvas, Excel, and I use data analysis to refine and improve learning experiences.

Lessons from the Court

Beyond the classroom, I’ve also spent time coaching basketball, which has shaped my approach to learning and leadership. As head coach of the Nansha College Preparatory Academy (NCPA) varsity basketball team, I coached my team to a Provincial Championship title for International Schools of Guangdong Province, China. Coaching taught me the power of adaptability, motivation, and building a culture of trust—skills that translate directly into instructional design. Just like in sports, learning thrives when there's a balance of challenge, encouragement, and a strong sense of team.

Beyond Work

For nearly a decade, I’ve lived abroad, always chasing new experiences and perspectives. My goal has never been just to visit places but to truly understand the world—its people, cultures, and ways of thinking. That curiosity extends beyond my travels and into my work, where I strive to create learning experiences that resonate with diverse audiences.

When I’m not contemplating the stars and the universe, you’ll find me exploring new corners of the world with my amazing wife and our rascally canine, Cosmo. Another personal mission of mine is tracking down the best pho on the planet. So far, the winner is a sublime little spot in downtown Hong Kong—on the main island, to be precise—but its true location remains a closely guarded secret.

Let’s Connect

At the end of the day, I believe happiness comes from both loving what you do and making sure you have a life outside of it. If you're looking to collaborate on instructional design, EdTech, or just want to swap travel stories (or pho recommendations), feel free to reach out. Cheers.
